Hi, I’m Paul Wang, a field recordist based in Taiwan.
As a highly sensitive person, I tend to quietly observe and feel the world around me. Because verbal communication doesn't come easily to me, I’ve chosen to converse with nature instead. Through field recording, I find a way to connect with the outside world. For me, recording is not merely about capturing sound—it is a journey of the soul. It is a process of searching for inner soundscapes, a way of returning—through listening—to a tranquil moment in memory.
My focus is on natural field recordings, capturing the subtle voices of wind, flowing water, insects, and the often-overlooked sounds of everyday environments. I hope these recordings can offer you a moment of calm amidst the noise of life—an invitation to immerse yourself and connect with your own emotions.
The name of this website, “Zikade,” is the German word for “cicada.” The sound of cicadas in summer evokes a deep sense of nostalgia for me. The call of the cicada (Cryptotympana takasagona Kato, 1925) during summer always pierced through the vast soundscape, striking my senses and awakening a glimmer of memory and emotion.
